New Freeware will fix Leap Year Birthday Glitch

As February 29th only occurs every four years, most web registration programs don’t recognize February 29th.  Therefore, when individuals with that birthday enter their information, they often run into a problem.  That is why the Honor Society of Leap Year Babies has released a freeware available to web designers that will determine which year is leap year and can be used for birthdate verification.  This freeware is available on the Honor Societies Website.

I think this is amusing.  I never really thought about the fact that some web systems might not recognize what year is leap year!  This is a simple inovation in software that can make soo many peoples lives easier.  I could’nt imagine having a problem everytime I entered my birthday into a web application.  This is an intersting new freeware.

Microsoft opens key software details to rivals

The world’s largest software maker will share the underlying technology that connects its software to other programs, considered a built-in advantage that has been the basis of antitrust scrutiny of the company.  Microsoft’s new policies are seen as a way of heading off future battles with regulators in Europe, Asia and the United States who have long accused it of using its dominant position to move into new businesses and squeeze out competitors. Microsoft seeks patent for office ’spy’ software

Microsoft is developing Big Brother-style software capable of remotely monitoring a worker’s productivity, physical wellbeing and competence.   Technology allowing constant monitoring of workers was previously limited to pilots, firefighters and Nasa astronauts. This is believed to be the first time a company has proposed developing such software for mainstream workplaces.   Please Click Here for the full article

Quick Clarification on WebBlog Entries

Since it still appears a few of you may be misunderstanding what is expected of you for the weblog postings, I will clarify how the discussion area should work….

Each week you are to post an minimum of two entries with a technology news article that relates to the chapter material being covered in the Computers Textbook from that week.  Your posing needs to contain a LINK to the article you are citing.  It is your mission to compile a posting with a unique response using personal experiences and factual resources from the textbook and other Internet resources.  In addition to simply creating the post, part of my evaluation of your work will be based upon the dialogue that you engage in with your fellow students in response to the topics and each other’s postings.

The week runs Sunday-Saturday. This Saturday February 23rd was the end of week 4.
Which means that in addition to your introduction posting you should have at a minimum
8 postings already created.

Please remember to sign your postings so you can get the proper credit for them.
Please let me know if any one has any questions.

Self-healing Rubber

The material is in part a mix of vegetable oil and a derivative of urine; the magic comes in the bonds between the molecules which make it up. The scientists switched from strong covalent bonds to weaker hydrogen ones, which enable the quick repair. The stuff is a lot like normal rubber in that it can be stretched to several times its normal length, but if you cut it in half, then hold it together for a few minutes, it’s restored to its original state, and you can bend and pull it again like regular rubber.
