Yahoo Launches Site Focused on Women

Yahoo Inc. on Monday launched a site for women between ages 25 and 54, calling it a key demographic underserved by current Yahoo properties. The site, Shine, is aimed largely at giving the struggling Internet Company additional opportunities to sell advertising targeted to the key decision-maker in many households. The article said, “These women were sort of caretakers for everybody in their lives,” she said. “They didn’t feel like there was a place that was looking at the whole them — as a parent, as a spouse, as a daughter. They were looking for one place that gave them everything.”Yahoo is entering a market already served by Glam Media Inc. and iVillage,. It is Yahoo’s first site aimed at a single demographic.

With Shine, Yahoo plans to expand its offerings in parenting, sex and love, healthy living, food, career and money, entertainment, fashion, beauty, home life, and astrology.

Naughty Auties

Naughty Auties, is a virtual resource center with tropical scenary to benefit those with autism. The different virtual scenes set up real life situations where those with autism can acquaint themselves with before dealing with the environment in real life. It’s a wonderful idea for a meeting area for people to come with support and love for those who need it most. I hope they higher Speech Pathologists; I would love to work in a setting like so. It seems like a fun place to learn social skills . The difference is in the real world, people aren’t going to be as supportive and understanding as the employee’s at Naughty Auties.

Cubans gain access to cell phones

Previously, Castro only allowed Cubans involved in foreign firms or who held high positions to manage cell phones. But on Friday, Castro declared that the common Cuban can now use a cell phone. Cubans who were illegible for cell phones would often get foreigners to sign contracts to get them phones. Cubans make little money and their life is ran by the communist government. It’s sad that they are just now receiving communication that America has been using so freely.

Adobe’s Free Photo Editor

Adobe is featuring Photoshop Express for free to acquire new users. It’s simple and easy to use while the most full-featured program for free on the web. The program will be great for organizing and editing digital photos. Adobe is risking their other products which are not free, such as Photoshop Elements. I think Photoshop Express sounds awesome because most free programs don’t allow you to access many of the cool features of the programs that cost money, but Photoshop Express offers features that most people are paying for. Definitely worth looking into.

Electric cars powered by wind set for Denmark

What do you get when you cross an electric powered car and wind turbines?  Uhhh… wind-powered electric car, of course!  Denmark is installing an electric car network that has about 20,000 recharging stations in the Scandinavian nation.  Batteries will be lithium-ion and can allow a car to drive about 90 miles before needing to be recharged.

Future cars could ‘flinch’ before collisions

You know how you flinch when someone hits you?  Well, what if that reaction was built into a car?  This flinching system can distinguish between moving objects, like cars, and stationary objects, such as trees.  It can also reduce the depth to which the car was smashed by up to 3.5 inches–that’s about the width of your ankle!  I think this is a wonderful idea because not every part of your car is protected by air bags.  This flinching system, designed mostly for side-collisions, can rectify this and offer you more safety while driving.

Futuristic floor glows with each footstep

How great would it be to have a rug that lights up every time you walk on it?  It would be great for making a groggy walk to the bathroom or could replace a child’s conventional night light.  This rug lights up with every step you take, offering a soft glow.  I think this is a great idea because I’m always stubbing my toes in the dark.
