Now that you’ve completed your hours, what advice do you have for future volunteers at your site? Are you happy it’s over? Why or why not? Would you like to continue volunteering here? Why/why not? Where would you like to volunteer? What have you learned about the people you’ve been working with? What have you learned about the larger world? What have you learned about your self? What else would you like to say about your service learning experience?

Jimmy W
My advice to you is to get it done early!!! I am happy is over just because i saved too much to do in the end. I will continue helping here, but there wont be the stress of needing to complete 20hr os time. Ive learned that this world is getting worse by the day and more people need to help make it better. Water Watch was a good fit to me but making first semester freshman complete service learning is cruel and evil. let them atleast be on there second or more semester!

Be patient and have some music or make sure your hours are scheduled at the same time as someone else so your not alone, and make sure Mr. Lakew signs your hours as you go along and he sticks to the schedule he wrote because he might ask you to come on extra days. I'm happy its over because it took up to much of my time and I wont be continuing with it. I would have rather volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club or join the Red Cross.

Now that all of my hours are finally completed, I give the advice for future volunteers to make sure to get it done early and don’t wait until the last week of classes to try to make up all of the hours. I’m very happy it’s over, and I’m also very happy I found a way to make up for all of the hours I missed out on at Contact. If I could go back I probably would have picked to complete my hours somewhere else. I feel Contact was a very helpful organization; however I felt being a volunteer there was boring. It’s good to sit and relax and do easy work, but I would rather be working with children playing and having a good time playing some dodge ball or kickball. After all of this is over I have learned how good something could feel when its finally done and off your chest, especially knowing you’ve helped others and yourself upon completing the task.

Advice for future volunteers would be, to choose a site that you might actually enjoy. Do not go to the boys and girls club if you hate children and have no patience or compassion for others! Now that my service learning hours are completed, I'm actually a little sad. Even though I haven't been at the site very long, I still formed abond with some of the younger children. I would actually like to continue volunteering at the boys and girls club, it would give me something to do in my spare time! = ] At first the people at the boys and girls club weren't very welcoming, but after a while they reliezed I wasn't another service learning student, who didn't want to be bothered. I was there for a reason. I have learned so much about the larger world, not everyone comes from a good neighborhood with good up bringings. While I was volunteering at the site, I learned so much about myself, I learned that I am a very compassionate and caring person and it always feels like I have to help someone. Overall I had a great experience at my service learning site, it is a great way to meet new people and learn new stuff about yourself.

Frank the tank!!!!!!!!

Now that my hours are done, I wish I had more time required because, I had a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this program for future students to volunteer at. I learned that in this program there are 9 concepts that everyone should implement in their daily lifestyle( openness, patience and consitiency, honesty, courage, responsibility, love and concern, gratitude, faith, and experience).

The advice that I have for the future volunteers at my site would be to treat this as a job so cover up anything that you don't want exposed, help out as much as you can, and have fun doing it. I'm not that happy it's over because I would definately like to go back and volunteer ther again. I learned that the people that I've worked with are very caring and like what they do and the fact of knowing that they helped people out. I've learned that kids really do need help and guidance to stear them down the right road instead of the wrong one. I've learned that I'm way more patient than I thought that I was. All in all, it was a great experience volunteering their and just the feeling of knowing that you probably helped someone even when you weren't trying to, feels great. I'll miss volunteering their and the people there especially the kids.

My advice to future volunteers of the boys and girls club is to go into it with an open mind, don't be afraid to correct the kids, and you should like kids and to work with them. I'm not happy that its over because I do miss the kids, but its more of a relieved feeling because it was hard to distribute time between school work and volunteering. I wouldn't mind still volunteering there because I enjoy working with kids. From working with the kids I've learned how much of an impact I can really make on them and how important it is for the kids to have good role models. From volunteering I've also learned that everyone's lifestyle is totally different, and everyone should be thankful for what they have. I feel like I've always known that I'm good with kids and I enjoy being with them but I've really realized how patient I am. Overall the boys and girls club was a good experience, and I'm really glad I chose that site.

My advice to future volunteers is that althought contact seems like it will not be fun at all it really is not bad. You talk to the nicest people that really do make a difference in your life. I am happy it is over just because i was sooo busy with school and work and trying to fit my volunteering in was pretty tough! I would volunteer again for cantact but i would just have to do it at times that were convient for me. The people that work at contact were soo nice and friendly. I have learned so much about myself by doing this community service. I have learned that i am be very outgoing and being able to learn about different kinds of people has also opened my eyes to new things. Overall this community service really was not that bad !

Advice for working at Atlantic City Rescue Mission would be keep a happy face on and talk to people who talk to you. This makes everybody a little happier. I really don't have any feelings now that it is over. I enjoyed working there, but it really made my schedule busy since I played a sport, and plus the gas money also hurt. This is a reason why I would not continue volunteering here. I learned that the people I work with are hard workers even though they are homeless, and that they shared simular childhoods and interest that I do. I learned that there are many people in the world that are homeless, and by just serving food to them, it makes a big difference in their lives. I have learned that I feel happy when I help others, and that I can efficantly wrap silverwear and server food. The service learning experience was a good one that I will now take knowledge from and be able to become a more responsable adult.
