Get ready!  We’re in for serious weather extremes!  Long johns!?  sun gear?  broad-brimmed hats?  I’m buying my hat once I get to Texas, so I won’t spend time on the drive out fretting about a hat that will get beat to hell and back anyway!

Get some sleep!  Hydrate hydrate hydrate

It’s totally official with all paperwork signed!

Hey!

Can’t believe it! We could use one more person. Does anyone know anyone who could go with us? It’s not critical, but it would be good.

Some people have not paid the full $500 and that has to be paid by Friday. I think that the Bursar’s office is already on summer hours, so they work 4 ten hour days; not Friday. If this is a serious problem let me know asap.

it’s a go!

Linda:

Your trip to the national parks now has sufficient enrollments to off-set the additional expenses for the College: thus it is a “go” under three conditions:

No trailer will be used for equipment.
Please see Dean Weiss tomorrow morning at 9am for the requisite revision of the drivers’ list that will take into account which RSC students ( exclusive of non-matrics) will be eligible for that list.
Our calculations are based on a number of independent study students for this course. As that number may drop for non-payment, I request that you consult with Dean Weiss one more time before departure to see whether the numbers of participants at that time may reduce the necessary van number from three to two.

Playing Poker

Remember, when playing for high stakes, you have to play the bluff. People will bluff and see if you back down. So, remember, we have rolled the dice, so let’s see it through. To me, there are things going on that we are not privy to, and our gas money is a HUGE target. So, let’s get registered, pay the money and get ready to roll. Hold firm! Keeping a poker face is essential, too.

No one yelled at me today, and I think wholeheartedly that Dean Colijn wants our trip to go. He is under some kind of interesting pressure, though.

I’m so nervous about this week! I will likely be in trouble for not being well-behaved about accepting any of the no’s I have been given. But, as they say, well-behaved women rarely make history, and in my experience, women who don’t behave as expected (yes, sir, if you say so, sir), piss people off. So, I’ll see if I can take the heat, keep my mouth shut and then take us off on a safe and happy trip!

One last meeting - mandatory

We have to put in a long day before we meet on the 19th.  Those that were present and who have contacted me decided on Wednesday May 14th.  We meet here and we have lots of work to do with the gear.  YOu need to bring every bit of your gear in for a gear check, and we will set up all the tents, seal seams, and decide which ones we are taking.  We have to watch a video and take a test to allow us to drive.  This is important.  For those who still haven’t gotten  your auto insurance cards to me - I need them tomorrow.  The person who does all of our paperwork is going out on surgery and we are at our limit.  Steve Nerney, I need the paperwork for your TA before noon tomorrow (well, 12:45).

resending an email to Liz Leitner for all to read - what we will be doing before we leave

Hi Liz,

good questions! We have lots of work to do before we go. We do have to sit and watch a video about driving and take a test. Every one that can drive will need to drive on this trip, so I’m glad you are up for it. I am having a very, very difficult time getting people together and a very very difficult time getting people to read their emails or the blog and now I have resorted to getting all of you to join a group on FaceBook. titania.stockton.edu/davisl

The syllabus is there, and if you go there you will see the dates for the trip. We meet on Monday the 19th to pack and have all kinds of chats and to take care of business. So, on the 19th everyone will meet at 9:00 am, and we work all day. We go home and get a good night’s sleep then we leave Stockton on Tuesday at 8 am - sharp. We have to have two meetings before then and they will be mandatory - so I need to have everyone alert and responding to my emails. I can’t know the dates yet. I am unbelievably swamped with work and much of it due to our trip. I am going to start kicking people out of the class on Tuesday - those who haven’t helped with fund raising or tents, those that will not respond to email etc. I’m going to copy your email and my response to the blog….you might want to tell your friend Joe that he is number one on the list to be dropped since he has had zero contact with me.

Hey Linda! Its getting closer and closer to go time. I just have a few
qusetions about lagistics. If you could tell me what time we plan on
leaving from stockton on the 16th that would be fabulous. Also, just to
make sure that I have this correct. We get back on June 18th? Are their
any manditory meetings after the semester ends and before the trip (so i
can plan my work scheduale around it)? Is their any driving lessons or
manditory movie that we needed to watch inorder to drive? Cause I wouldnt
mind doing some of the driving. Other than pulling together the little
things I am personally ready and psyched! Hope your finals arent too crazy.

PS: Im paying for my credits and the deposit tomorrow!!

still pending, still waiting

After my last blast, only one person came by to see me to discuss their no-show on Thursday.  So, I will be taking steps in the very near future to lower the number of people coming on this trip.  Non-student status is still pending and is a separate issue from the above.  Deposits are due, now past due.  The note that we got our account number went up last week - all should have been prepared to put the $200 down on April 12th, so this should be done.  Tuesday morning I will check with the Bursar’s office to see who has put the $200 down.  If you haven’t  put the $200 down, you won’t go on the trip (again, non-students status is on hold, so you guys hold on to your deposits until we get the word from above).
