Introduction to Financial Management

November 27th, 2007 by cglaum

Welcome to my Introducton to Financial Management Course, which is taught at the Carnegie Library Center in Atlantic City. This goal of this course is to introduce students to the key areas of financial management, with an emphasis on analyzing financial statements. Throughout the semester, we will utilize concepts learned from the textbook, class discussions, and current events to understand financial markets, as well as the characteristics of various companies and industries.

Below is the Syllabus for the Fall 2009 Semester:

Fall 2009 Syllabus

Course Materials:

The class discussions for each chapter are based on Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and supporting documents in Microsoft Excel and PDF Format. All of these resources can be accessed by clicking the FINA 3110 tab on this web site or entering the following web address: http://titania.stockton.edu/glaum/fina3110. After the first class, it is the student’s responsibility to print out all of the documents and have them available when that information is being discussed in class.

Computer Skills:

For this course, students need to have a working knowledge of (1) a word processing application such as Microsoft Word, (2) spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel, and (3) presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will also be required to perform basic Internet searches for the financial analysis project.

Tests:

There will be three tests during the semester, none of which will be cumulative. The tests will consist of objective questions and problems and students will need a calculator and the Time Value of Money Appendices that accompany the text, if necessary. Valid excuses are required prior to the test date when possible and a date and time for a make-up exam should be worked out with the instructor.

Financial Analysis Project:

The financial analysis project is a group project that requires students to analyze the significant operating and financial characteristics of a public company, create a written report, and give a presentation based on their analysis.
