This image is a picture of Stone Mountain in Georgia. When the family is first driving, the grandmother makes reference to it. In the story, she points out, “the blue granite that in some places came up to both sides of the highway; the brilliant red clay banks slightly streaked with purple; and the various crops that made rows of green lace-work on the ground.” This helps paint a picture of how beautiful and peaceful both the scenery and the family were before running into The Misfit.

This is what I imagine the dirt road that they were traveling down to look like. It also represents the woods where the members of the family were shot. This image is especially relevant because it brings the scene of the murders to life. It also represents the seclusion of the family, seeing as how there was nothing in sight.

This is what I imagine the grandmother’s cat, Pitty Sing, to look like. The cat is described as being “gray-striped with a broad white face and an orange nose.” The grandmother also hides the cat in a basket from the family, hence the significance of this image.
