Creative Writing
Students interested in seriously pursuing creative writing — in fiction, poetry, or other genres — can pursue the Creative Writing track. They begin by taking the two Literature core courses:
LITT 1101 — Literary Methodology
LITT 2123 — Literary Research
and
LITT 2237 — Introduction to Creative Writing (prerequisite: C or better in a W1 course)
After taking these courses and at least one additional writing or literature course, students will take:
LITT 3XXX — Creative Writing Workshop (not repeatable)
Students in this track also take 2 electives in creative writing, including but not limited to:
LITT 3224 Hypertext
LITT 3250 Multimedia Production
LITT 2xxx Form Poetry
LITT 2xxx Playwriting
After completing the Creative Writing Workshop, students must take at least 8 more credits of workshop:
LITT 3636: Advanced Fiction Writing Workshop
LITT 3235: Advanced Poetry Writing Workshop
Additionally, students must take 3 Literature courses at the 3000 level, one being before 1800, and one being contemporary or 20th century literature.
Lastly, students in the Creative Writing track will take LITT 4610 — Senior Seminar, or with permission of instructor, sign up for Senior Project.
