Folks, I’ve read your second batch of essays on Paradise Lost. In general they were very good, but I have a few comments for all.
Most of you use the verb “quote” when you mean the noun “quotation.” This is not a big deal. Most people don’t understand that a clear difference once existed between the words. If you choose to be careful and discriminating in your word use — and a bit formal — you might consider using “quotation” when you mean the actual words and “quote” when you are presenting them.
He quoted the quotation perfectly.
