Thesis A - Introduction

Posted by mina in Uncategorized

So What Does Globalization Have To Do With Litt? When I first realized that my senior seminar topic was globalization, I was not thrilled, to say the least. Globalization? I’m sorry; I thought I was a litt major. The readings in the beginning - on the theory of globalization - were hard for me to understand. And I was apprehensive of the topic all semester, and the idea that I had to write a thesis on the subject. But then one day, I met Tom Kinsella in the hallway, and he asked me how sem was going. My response was something of an eeehhhh. And he looked at me in that Tom way and said, “Now, let me tell you something. Senior Seminar is what you make of it.” I should have known Tom would put it all into perspective for me. Of course if I was thinking negatively about the course, I wasn’t going to be excited about the thesis. So what if I didn’t like the topic - I still had to write twenty-five pages about it, didn’t I? I might as well get into it. After all, I was beginning to feel ashamed that, in conversations in which people outside of Stockton asked me what globalization was, I was unable to provide a direct answer. So finally I began researching the topic, and thinking about my favorite book, Life of Pi, in a different way than I had before. I was finally excited to write my thesis, to top off my undergraduate studies with something contemporary and omnipresent. I realize now that, although I went into the class feeling like I would rather not think about globalization at all, it really is an inescapable phenomenon that is worth considering. Though I was apprehensive about this course, and this paper, I’m thankful now for two things - obviously, I’m glad that it’s over, but, less obviously, I am happy that, because globalization is present in all fields, my thesis feels relatable to more than litt folk. So, now that I’ve finished rambling about my feelings on the course, here’s the good stuff, please follow the links on the sidebar to navigate between my thesis topics.
