Day Two: March 18, 2008

Port: Nassau, Bahamas

We woke up docked in Nassau and the weather was dark, because we have no window. But when we got ready and went to breakfast, we saw the weather was fantastic. Breakfast brought many delicious wonders (but not all was delicious), including that Smucker’s makes damn near anything in a single serve packet. But enough about breakfast, we got off the boat and we walked to the port building. After a few pictures and seeing some sights, we arrived at the Festival Place, it’s the place where they have the festival. There were some nice shops for baskets, hairbraiding, and random island associated gifts. From there we went to the actual city and the stores themselves. Nassau is a neverending stream of duty free jewelry, cuban cigars and booze. But we were on a mission: free gifts, shirts, colorchange stuff, a Hard Rock pin and pirates. So we got a free pendant, some tshirts, GF bought some color changing nail polish, I bought a pin. We looked around at some more stores and then ventured over to the fun stuff, Pirates of Nassau! Inside it was both educational and entertaining without the use of animatronics or fungineering. After making our way through the golden age of piracy, we took a few more photos in the stocks and such and then made our way back to the ship.

Upon returning, we tallied up the booty and then decided to go swimming. The pool was cold, refreshing and surprising not crowded, the other best part, free soft serve! So after enjoying frozen dairy treats, we went and got ready for dinner, for it was… formal night! We got all fancypants’d up and went and got lots of pictures taken. Then we had dinner, it was quite good, a definite change from our normal fare, and also resulted in us getting free chocolate-covered strawberries, for there being and issue with our meal, which didn’t even bother us in the first place. Dinner was a truly fancy affair, about ten utensils per place setting can get very confusing. Along with lemon sorbet served before the main course, live music wafted through the dining room as we ate our meal. The string trio played such hits as “Sweet Home Alabama”, “A Whole New World” and “Beauty and the Beast”. After dinner, we killed some time and then went and met our captain, Captain Ron. A quick costume change and we were back to the A Chorus Line Theatre for the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers in “Signed Sealed Delivered” a soul and R&B revue.

After the show, we went back to the room, watched some tv and fought off sleep because there was a party to go to. We made it to midnight, barely, and went to the poolside set sail/midnight buffet party, at, you guessed it, midnight. A dance party means everybody packed on the dance floor like sardines doing line dances. But there was food, and the pool was quite a sight with the ship on the move, it was quite sloshy. We made an appearance, but we were just TOO tired to do anything, so we called it a night.

More on day 3 and our trip to Coco Cay in the next post.
