Jennifer’s Knee Socks

Throughout the game, although Jennifer is supposedly nineteen years old, she is wearing knee socks. I believe that this is symbolic of her childlike mindstate; she was very young when the orphanage massacre occured and she is trying to retrieve these memories of her past. Very near the conclusion of the game, during the ”Stray Dog and the Lying Princess” chapter, her socks disappear. This was interesting to me; it was a detail that stood out and I began to speculate as to why it happened. This is also the chapter where Jennifer stands up to the Red Crayon Aristocrats. They had killed Brown (her dog) and she was finally fed up with their “games”. When she confronts the Aristocrats, she is mainly yelling at Wendy (the “lying princess”).
Here is the YouTube link for this confrontation:

The following is my theory about why I believe her socks dissappeared when they did. This detail, although small, contributes to the game’s theme of Jennifer retrieving her memories and growing up as a result.
While my theory was slightly off topic for the page, I felt that it fit because of the scene being discussed.
Here is the link to the original discussion that I posted my knee sock theory in response to:

Knee Sock Theory:
Just a funny little thing I noticed: when Jennifer enters the Aristocrat room (in this whole chapter as a matter of fact), her knee socks are missing. But when Wendy is standing in front of her, and Jennifer is told that Brown is in the bag and its too late, the camera shows her balling up her fist. Her fist is shown next to her ankles and her dark socks are back! At first I thought maybe her leg was in shadow, but her fist is practically ON her leg and so you can see what flesh in shadow looks like; her leg is definitely navy blue…of course, when she becomes child Jennifer, she is wearing white knee socks.
One last thought about the socks: maybe they were gone because Jennifer was considering herself too old for the Aristocrat games? She had said how she felt like the only grown up and adults CERTAINLY don’t wear knee socks…maybe this was the point where she really saw the orphans for what they were (because of what they’d done to Brown) and the disapperance of the socks was symbolic. That could also explain the return of the socks, to show that she actually WAS a child when she confronted Wendy and that this part of Jennifer’s “dream” should be taken as true events from her past.
