The Orphanage, the movie

The film The Orphanage, has many similarities to the game Rule of Rose. While neither claims to be influenced by the other, the plots seem to have much in common. In the film, a woman named Laura returns to the orphanage where she grew up; while she does this in reality, and Jennifer’s is a “dream” trip, both plots are based on a similar premise. The dress the main character wears (grey with a large white collar) is very similar to Jennifer’s dress. Jennifer is taunted by orphans wearing paper bags on their heads; the film portrays children with what appear to be burlap sacks covering their faces. Coincidence?
These, and many other similarities are discussed on the Rule of Rose Mysteries site. Here is the link to that discussion: http://ruleofrosemysteries.com/2008/04/23/uncategorized/comparing-endings-el-orfanato-the-orphanage-and-rule-of-rose-warning-movie-spoilers/
As a warning, this discussion contains a lot of details about the film; if you do not want the plot spoiled, I would advise checking out the link The Orphanage, the movie that I have posted on my Blogroll, instead. This is the official site for the film.

While not having seen this film myself, I am extremely curious about it. As I stated in the introduction, the plot of Rule of Rose is, in my opinion, the best part of the game. It would be great to see this plot acted out chronologically; this film sounds very similiar to my “wish”. I will post on it as soon as I have watched El Orfanato (this film’s Spanish title). In the mean time, if anyone has seen the film, please post and let me know what you think. If you have played the game as well, that’s even better.
