The first picture is of the author Toni Cade Bambara. I wanted to put a face to the name. I feel like Dada Bibi in “A Girl’s Story” would look exactly like Bambara. The second picture is clearly a map of Africa. I chose this because African heritage does surface during the story. Dada Bibi and Rae Ann make a homemade map of Africa. On the map Guinea-Bissau is labeled. Dada Bibi’s brother teaches Rae Ann the marching song of this territory. The two war images represent the Vietnam War. The story takes place during the time of the war and Horace is strongly against enlisting. Rae Ann also finds it difficult to agree of be proud of the violence taking place. The image of Malcolm X was posted because he is another character that Rae Ann does not relate to. She does not agree to fight for freedom using violence.
